Volunteers have been the lifeblood of The Cottage Homes since its formation in 1872. At that time a small but dedicated team of volunteers identified the urgent need to provide suitable affordable accommodation to ‘poor’ older South Australians. Since then, volunteers have provided an invaluable service to The Cottage Homes, regularly visiting tenants to provide a listening ear regarding their wellbeing.
During its history, The Cottage Homes has been led by volunteer Boards and Committees. This succession of dedicated volunteers has overseen the growth of The Cottage Homes from the original two cottages to now being able to affordably house over 130 senior South Australians.
As The Cottage Homes continues to grow into the future, we will need to engage more people to voluntarily serve older members of the community. Volunteers receive induction and other training, and are required to provide a current National Police Check and proof of COVID vaccination.
